Every year, as Valentine’s Day approaches, we are bombarded with images of grand romantic gestures, roses, candlelit dinners, and couples exchanging heartfelt gifts. And while there is nothing wrong with celebrating romantic love, it’s important to point out that love is much bigger than just one kind of relationship.

Love is everywhere. It’s in the friendships that make us laugh until we cry, the family members who have been our backbone, the self-care moments that nourish our souls, and the little acts of kindness that make the world a better place.
So, this Valentine’s Day, instead of focusing solely on romance, let us expand our definition of love and celebrate all the beautiful connections in our lives.
Self love - the most important relationship
If there is one thing i have learned as a busy woman, it’s that self-love isn’t just important, it’s essential. Between work, family, and responsibilities, we often put ourselves last. But Valentine’s Day is a perfect excuse to pause and pour love into ourselves.
This year, I am giving myself permission to slow down and treat myself with the same love I so easily give to others. And if you are reading this, consider this your reminder to do the same.

Family bond - the first love we ever knew
Every Valentine’s Day, my mum would always verbally express love to us. It was simple but it meant something, especially when you are away from home and feeling unloved in the middle of grand romantic gestures.
As an adult, i know that family bonds deserve to be celebrated just as much as romantic ones.
No matter how busy life gets, love starts at home and valentine’s day is a beautiful reminder of that.
Take out time to express love to your family!

The love of friendship - celebrating our tribe
There is a special kind of love that exists between friends; the ones who show up, who know our quirks, and who love us even when we are at our worst. If you have friends like that, take a moment to celebrate them.
Honestly, I haven’t been an amazing friend so this is my prompt to celebrate my friends and do better.

Love for community - giving back
One of the purest forms of love is kindness; especially to those who need it most.
This Valentine’s Day, why not extend love beyond your immediate circle?
Love multiplies when we give it away, and sometimes, the simplest gestures can make the biggest impact.

Love for a passion or hobby - reignite what brings you joy.
Life gets busy, and sometimes, we forget to nurture the things that bring us joy. But love is not just about people, it's also about the things that make our souls light up.
For me, writing has always been my passion, and this Valentine’s Day, I am choosing to fall in love with it all over again.

Final Thoughts: Love is Everywhere
Whether you are in a relationship, single, or somewhere in between, Valentine’s Day is not just about romance, it’s about love in all its beautiful forms.
It’s about loving yourself, cherishing your friends and family, spreading kindness, and finding joy in the little things.
This year, let’s make Valentine’s Day a celebration of all the love that surrounds us. Because at the end of the day, love is what makes life beautiful.
